Our Sister

Memories of our Sister In loving memory of Catriona my big Sis. Catriona was my big Sister who cared for me when I was small and my Mother was ill and she was a major part in my life. She took me to school for my first day and as we entered the school I saw children crying, so I started crying and as the Headmistress Miss Tomlinson took my left hand to take me in to school, Catriona took my right hand to take me home, a tug of war ensued that unfortunately the Headmistress won and condemned me to 12 years of schooling, I would have much rather gone home with Catriona. Growing up with my Sis was never dull, she was strong willed and single minded. She introduced me to what became my career as a learning disability nurse at Langdon Hospital but after the morning of my third day I was ready to pack in, luckily for me Catriona was working on the next ward, she took me to lunch and persuaded me to give it a week, without her I would have left there and then, I finally left that career thirty years later! Catriona was very special and touched the lives of many people; she was always thinking of others never herself. She made me laugh and we laughed together, there will be no more laughter between us now, she has left a big hole in my life that will never be filled. Sandy We are here today to give thanks for and in rememberance of the life of Catriona. Each person present will have their own memories of her. She was wife of more than 37yrs to Michael, a loving Mother to Alistair,Iona,Iain & Kirsty & a devoted Grandmother, sister to Mary & Sandy. Catriona was a keen shoppper from an early age, even one sunday missing sunday school to visit the local shops. However in those long ago days no shops were open, so with her few pence burning a hole in her pocket she bought stamps from the machine outside the local post office which were promptly sold to her Father on returning home. Later in life most of her shopping expeditions were for the benefit of others her enjoyment being in giving generously. Her family & friends were the most important things to her, she was never happier than when cooking for & entertaining at gatherings small & large ar Sorrento, or organisingfamily celebrations. Catriona was fiercly proud of her Scottish roots no special occasion was complete without a piper and a glass of champagne. She was a socialist from an early age, she never enjoyed walking but took part in the Aldermaston 'Ban the Bomb' marches as well as canvassing & delivering leaflets for the Labour Party, a thankless task in 1960's Torquay. Catriona bore her last illness with great fortitude refusing to let it take over her life, her motto being 'onward and upward', Her snse of humour and enjoyment of life were intact to the end Catriona enriched our lives she would want to be remembered with a smile.
